Design Notes
Bombinin-like peptide 7 (BLP-7), which was determined from Bombina orientalis, has been shown to possess certain antibacterial activity. Study shows that 5μM of it inhibits P. acnes’ growth in vitro[1]. It is an antimicrobial peptide consisting of 27 amino acids and has been shown to have a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. Cell experiments showed that BLP-7 inhibits the expression of two proinflammatory cytokines IL-8 and granulocyt-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) in normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHEKs), and had anti-inflammatory effects[2]. The secondary structure of BLP-7 is a cationic amphiphilic α helix, which can target the lipid bilayer of bacterial cell plasma membrane, punch holes through the membrane and kill bacteria.
